Just WHAT Are we Afraid of?

So now it's come to this. We are clearly a nation terrorized. If the purpose of terrorism is "to terrorize" we might as well surrender, because they have won and we have lost. As a nation, we are so afraid, so locked into our bunker mentality, that we're now afraid of '70s pop stars. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, this once proud nation, the very people who defeated naziism and communism is now afraid of Cat Stevens. Is this funny, or merely sad? It's not bad enough that we're so afraid of poor Afghani peasants we "captured" that even after two years we can't bring ourselves to let them see a lawyer. The ironic thing is that a powerful nation like ours had nothing to fear from these people when we took them into custody, but if we were to release them today? Let's just say if I was one of them I'd bear quite a grudge. But now, we can't even allow an airliner containg Cat Stevens to land in Washington. I wonder what Homeland Security thought he might do? Even before his conversion to Islam, Cat Stevens was a man deeply committed to peace and justice. Here is someone we know something about. And the thought that Cat Stevens might be a--what?--suicide bombing terrorist? Is this a man who we really believe would murder a plane full of innocents? Come on. Homeland Security will not be successful if their entire plan consists of preventing any and all Islamic people from flying on US airlines. They have to have SOME level of credibility. The whole world is pointing and laughing about now. And wondering if we have lost our minds.
